The Police Department is comprised of 24 sworn police officers and 2 administrative civilians. One Chief of Police, one Lieutenant, one Detective Sergeant, two Detectives, four Patrol Sergeants, thirteen Patrol Officers, and two School Resource Officers. All officers are certified by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission.
The Police Department consists of a Patrol Division and a Criminal Investigations Division. The patrol division has four platoons assigned with one Patrol Sergeant with three Patrol Officers. These officers work twelve-hour shifts rotating from dayshift to nightshift every two weeks. The Criminal Investigations Division consists of the Detective Sergeant, two Detectives, and the two School Resource Officers who serve Southern Lehigh School District.
Specialty positions include officers certified in accident re-construction, a K-9 officer, four members of the Lehigh County Municipal Emergency Response Team, 3 DARE Instructors and six bicycle patrol officers.
The Police Department’s fleet of marked patrol vehicles consists of seven Ford Explorers and four Chevrolet Tahoes. There are also seven unmarked vehicles consisting of three Ford Explorers, three Dodge Durangos, and two Ford Taurus. There are also six Police equipped bicycles used for patrol by the bicycle officers. The Police Department also utilizes a 6’ X 10’ utility trailer equipped for accident reconstruction and processing major crime scenes.
